COVENTRY, UK – August 28, 2025 – The Yard, a vibrant community hub in Coventry, is proud to announce a challenging charity cycle event aimed at raising crucial funds for Safe Haven, a vital service provided by Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind. This ambitious event will take place on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, from 10:00 AM to midnight at The Yard, where volunteers will collectively cycle an incredible 1,179 miles in just 14 hours.

The choice of 1,179 miles is deeply significant: on average, 1,179 people worldwide take their own lives over a 14-hour period. Each mile cycled will serve as a poignant reminder of this tragic statistic, highlighting the urgent need for mental health support and suicide prevention.
Two state-of-the-art spinning bikes have been generously donated by Simply Gym, enabling this marathon effort. The Yard is now calling for enthusiastic volunteers to help keep the wheels turning and contribute to this ambitious target.
About Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind and Safe Haven:
Mind is a leading mental health charity in England and Wales, dedicated to empowering anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They provide advice and support to improve mental well-being and promote understanding. Safe Haven, a service offered by Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind, provides a crucial alternative to A&E for individuals experiencing mental health crises. It offers a safe, calm, and supportive environment where people can receive immediate help, practical advice, and emotional support, diverting them from hospital settings and linking them with appropriate long-term care.
Kieran Jones, Manager at The Yard, expressed his full support for the initiative: “We are incredibly proud to host this event and support Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind. The statistics around mental health and suicide are heartbreaking, and Safe Haven provides an invaluable lifeline to so many. We encourage everyone to get involved, whether by cycling, donating, or simply coming along to show their support.”
The Critical Need for Funds: Suicide Statistics and the LGBTQ+ Community
Suicide remains a significant public health concern, with devastating impacts on individuals, families, and communities. In the UK, alarming statistics highlight the disproportionate impact on the LGBTQ+ population. Research by Stonewall (2018) found that one in eight LGBTQ+ people aged 18-24 have attempted to take their own life, compared to one in twenty of the general population. Furthermore, over half of LGBTQ+ people (52%) have experienced depression and anxiety. These figures underscore the urgent need for accessible and inclusive mental health services. Raising funds for services like Safe Haven is crucial to providing timely intervention, support, and a safe space for individuals in crisis, ultimately saving lives.
Representatives from Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind will be present at The Yard throughout the entire event, offering valuable advice, support, and information about their services.
Every mile cycled and every pound donated will make a tangible difference to the lives of those struggling with their mental health. Join The Yard in this meaningful challenge and help us support Safe Haven in providing vital care to our community.
