As we enter 2025, Coventry BID’s Street Patrol Team is already making an impressive impact across the city centre, tackling challenges head-on and ensuring a safer, more secure environment for both businesses and residents. The team has been busier than ever, and the results speak for themselves.

Cracking Down on Shoplifting

One of the standout achievements in January has been the team’s success in dealing with shoplifting. Working closely with local retailers and the police, the Street Patrol Team has recovered stock valued at over £1,500. But their work goes far beyond just retrieving stolen items. The intelligence they’ve gathered has become an invaluable resource for the police in their efforts to address long-term solutions for dealing with prolific offenders.

It’s not just about catching shoplifters in the act,” a team member shared. “We’re building a bigger picture to help prevent these crimes from happening in the first place.”

Coordination with CCTV Control

Another critical aspect of the team’s success has been their collaboration with the city’s CCTV control room. Whether responding to incidents or monitoring key areas, the coordination between the patrols and the control room has been seamless. This has not only helped prevent crimes but also enabled rapid responses when incidents occur.

Life-Saving Quick Response

The Street Patrol Team has also demonstrated their ability to handle emergency situations. A recent medical incident in Broadgate showed just how crucial their presence is. When a man fell and sustained a serious head injury, the team quickly deployed a Bleed Kit. Fortunately, the ambulance arrived in time, and the kit wasn’t needed, but the team’s readiness and swift action ensured that no time was wasted.

Having that equipment on hand, knowing how to use it—it gives you peace of mind that if something happens, you’re prepared,” one patrol officer remarked.

Dedication in Every Step

Since the start of the year, the team has already covered over 500 miles of patrols throughout the city centre. That’s no small feat and a testament to their dedication to keeping Coventry’s streets safe. These miles aren’t just numbers—they represent the team’s constant presence, always ready to assist, deter crime, and provide reassurance to the community.

2025 has already proven to be a challenging year for the Street Patrol Team, but their commitment and tireless efforts continue to shine through. Whether it’s recovering stolen stock, responding to medical emergencies, or coordinating with city-wide security measures, the team is demonstrating just how vital they are to Coventry.

As the year progresses, there’s no doubt that the team will continue to rise to the challenges ahead, keeping our city centre safe and secure for everyone.
