Coventry BID’s Street Patrol Team has been making an impact across the city centre since the start of 2025. The team have been cracking down on shoplifting, coordinating with CCTV control and providing quick responses to life-saving situations.

The team have been tackling challenges ‘head-on’ to ensure a safe and secure environment for businesses and residents. The team have been busier than ever, with organisers saying the ‘results speak for themselves’.
One of January’s standout achievements was dealing with shoplifting. The Street Patrol Team recovered stock valued at over £1,500. One team member said: “It’s not just about catching shoplifters in the act. We’re building a bigger picture to help prevent these crimes from happening in the first place.”
Another aspect of the team’s success is their collaboration with the city’s CCTV control room. Coventry BID added: “Whether responding to incidents or monitoring key areas, the coordination between the patrols and the control room has been seamless. This has helped prevent crimes and enabled rapid responses when incidents occur.”
The team has also demonstrated their ability to handle emergency situations. In a recent medical incident in Broadgate, when a man fell and sustained a serious head injury, the team quickly deployed a Bleed Kit. The ambulance arrived in time, and the kit wasn’t required, but the team ‘readiness and swift action’ ensured that no time was wasted. One patrol officer said: “Having that equipment on hand, knowing how to use it, it gives you a peace of mind that if something happens, you’re prepared.”
Since the start of 2025, the team has already covered over 500 miles of patrols throughout the city centre. Coventry BID concluded: “2025 has already proven to be a challenging year for the Street Patrol Team, but their commitment and tireless efforts continue to shine through. Whether it’s recovering stolen stock, responding to medical emergencies, or coordinating with city-wide security measures, the team is demonstrating just how vital they are to Coventry.
“As the year progresses, the team will undoubtedly continue to rise to the challenges ahead, keeping our city centre safe and secure for everyone.
